A Sandys man, who became involved in an altercation at a West End bar has admitted violently resisting arrest and using offensive words towards a police officer.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Tyshaun Brown, 20, pleaded guilty to the offences, which took place at Woody’s Sports Bar in Sandys on March 14.

Brown, who needed to be shot with a Taser gun by means of restraint, denied a further charge of assaulting a police officer and the Crown decided to offer no evidence on that count.

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Cindy Clarke told the court that police officers attended Woody’s after receiving reports of a disturbance.

She said that a group of men were trying to detain Brown when they arrived.

She added that a struggle ensued, during which Brown shouted at the Police officers: “I don’t give a f***” and “don’t f*****g touch me, boy”.

Ms Clarke said that the officers used a Taser, but after this failed to stop the defendant they utilised captor spray to subdue him.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo granted $2,000 bail with a like surety and ordered a drug assessment and social inquiry report to be carried out.

Mr Tokunbo adjourned the matter to May 7.

Also in court today, a St George’s man denied stealing almost $80 worth of codfish.

Dean Burgess, 52, was charged with two counts of stealing codfish, worth $49.95, from the MarketPlace stores in Pembroke on March 8, and one count of stealing codfish, worth $29.97, on March 11.

Mr Tokunbo granted $1,000 bail and set a trial date for May 8.
