Jamaican pleads guilty to cannabis charges

One man pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import cannabis and three others denied the charge when they appeared at the monthly arraignments session yesterday.

Albert St. John Smith, 35, of Jamaica, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import the drugs between July 3 and August 5 this year in Bermuda and elsewhere with others not before the court.

In Supreme Court, Chief Justice Austin Ward ordered Smith to be remanded in custody until February 2 for mention again.

His co-accused, Winston Steve Richards, 41, also of Jamaica, Sharon Weina Mundy, 43, and Owen Ewart Mundy, 50, both Whale Hill, Southampton, deny the same charge.

Richards and Mrs. Mundy were ordered to remain in custody, while bail was continued for Mr. Mundy.

Karim Shadeed Salahuddin, 25, of Serpentine Road, Pembroke, was remanded in custody again when he appeared accused of murdering his six-month-old daughter Cassidy on May 6 this year.

British national Martin Cashman, 50, was remanded in custody for mention on February 2 on charges of importation of heroin and possession of heroin on October 5 this year.

A 22-year-old Pembroke man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody on two charges of having unlawful carnal knowledge of the same girl who is under 14.

Dutchman Eddy Franklyn Filiciana, 44, who is accused of importing more than $200,000 of cocaine, was remanded in custody again until May 4 for mention.

Lorenzo Prince Robinson, 24, who is accused of the attempted murder of tourist Scott Jable on Front Street, was remanded in custody again when he appeared. A trial date has been set for April 12.

Kaream Tunes Gibbons, 25, of Rambling Lane, Pembroke, who was charged with wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon, and wilful damage to property, will be sentenced on December 19. The Chief Justice remanded him in custody again until sentencing.

Dana Marie Francis, 26, will stand trial on May 4 on charges of importing cocaine and possession of the drug with intent to supply.

Fitzroy George Hamilton, from Jamaica, who is charged with importation of 996 grammes of cocaine, and supply of the drug in April this year, will appear on February 2 for mention.

Ricardo James Lamb, 19, of St. David's, was remanded in custody again for mention on January 5 on drugs charges. He has pleaded guilty to importation of cocaine and cannabis worth $60,000, but denies charges of possession of the drugs with intent to supply. Corey Allen Ewings, 20, of Newark, New Jersey, who denies denies six counts of importing heroin, cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply, was remanded in custody for mention on February 2.

Habitual housebreaker Cyril Samuel Tucker, 60, of no fixed abode, who admitted housebreaking, was remanded in custody again over the holiday period, to appear in court again on January 5.
