Rubis vows to reopen marina gas station
Rubis has vowed to reopen Robinson’s Marina gas station “as quickly as possible” after its operators abruptly closed its doors yesterday.
The station at Somerset Bridge opened as per normal yesterday, but was suddenly shut at around 3pm.
Rubis bosses told The Royal Gazette that they will be meeting with operators Robinson’s Marina Ltd to determine how to move forward.
However, last night it remained unclear why the sudden decision to close the gas station had been made and when it would be reopened. “This morning (Thursday) we were informed by the dealer on site, Robinson’s Marina Ltd, that they no longer wished to continue operations on the site,” Jermaine Simons, Rubis sales manager, said.
“There are certain contractual obligations that prevent me from talking as to why Robinson’s made this decision.
“From here we will be discussing the matter further with the operator and developing a plan to have the station resume operations as quickly as possible. It is our intent to have the station reopened as quickly as we can, but certain process have to be gone through.
“The station has eight members of staff, full and part time. They are employees of Robinson’s Marina Ltd so we can not answer for their staff.
“We would like to extend our apologies to the public. We understand that this will inconvenience quite a number of people. This was not something we had planned for.”
The Royal Gazette contacted Reginald Minors, the chairman of the board that runs the station. But Mr Minors said he would not comment on the closure “at this time”.
Rubis managing director, David Rose, said: “Rubis Energy Bermuda would like the motoring and marine public to be aware of the sudden and unexpected closure of Robinson’s Marina at Somerset Bridge with immediate effect.
“At this time, we cannot confirm when the station will reopen.”
Rubis added that services remain available at Boaz Island, Raynor’s Southampton and Warwick South Shore.
