Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd has donated $250,000 to the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust.

The charity is conducting what it describes as the biggest fundraising campaign in the Island’s history, as it attempts to raise $40 million over three years to help to transform King Edward VII Memorial into a world-class facility. The Why It Matters capital campaign has raised more than $30 million since it was launched in April 2011.

Ralph Richardson, the BHCT’s executive director, received the donation from a group of Endurance staff in the insurance and reinsurance company’s offices in the Waterloo House office building yesterday.

“I am delighted and very proud that Endurance, through this large donation, is a major supporter of the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust and the vital capital projects which it is undertaking,” said John Charman, Endurance’s chairman and chief executive officer.

“The revitalisation of KEMH significantly advances the quality of health care available to the Bermuda community and will significantly benefit every family on our wonderful Island.”

Mr Richardson said: “This donation gives the campaign a great start to the new year and we are very pleased that Endurance has come on board as a partner with this project.

“Many thanks to John Charman and his Endurance team for supporting us.”

He emphasised that the campaign was continuing.
