Drivers urged to take care
Transport Minister Shawn Crockwell has urged drivers to exercise “care and caution” on the roads over Christmas in the wake of the 14th road fatality of the year.
Shawn Williams, 23, died in the early hours of Sunday morning after he lost control of his bike on Paynter’s Road in Hamilton Parish and hit a tree.
Mr Crockwell said Mr Williams’ death was a devastating loss, “especially right before Christmas”.
“I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Shawn Williams,” said Mr Crockwell.
“I would like to offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends.
“This is indeed going to be a terribly painful and very difficult time for this young man’s loved ones and they have my heartfelt sympathy.
“This is such a devastating loss, especially right before Christmas. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr Williams family and friends at this time.
“As the Minister of Transport, I want to take this opportunity to encourage the general public to please take extra precautions on our roads over this busy holiday period.
“Please be mindful while driving to always exercise care and caution.”
Meanwhile, the Progressive Labour Party also sent out a statement yesterday extending the party’s condolences to Mr Williams’ family.
A spokesman said: “The Progressive Labour Party extends our sincere condolences to the family of road fatality victim Mr Shawn Williams. Tragedies such as this are always difficult to endure but even worse when during the holiday season.
“Our prayers go out to the family and friends as they come to terms with this unfortunate and sudden loss.”
