A man has pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis and using offensive language towards a police officer. But he has been cleared of a charge of assaulting the same officer.

Magistrates’ Court was told that Jahdeko Fubler, 22, was sitting in his car outside of the Ice Queen in Paget with two other passengers on April 13 when two of them got into a heated exchange.

Police heard them shouting “f** you and f*** off to each other and so approached the passengers in the car.

Fubler then told the officer: “F***ing leave us alone” at which point the officer warned him of his behaviour. He went on: “F*** you, leave us alone we are in our car”, referring to the officers as “f***ing foreigners”.

The court also heard that Fubler had “chest bumped” the officer but Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo didn’t consider it to be an assault.

Fubler was taken to Hamilton Police Station where 0.26 grammes was found in his possession. Asked what the substance was, the defendant replied: “It’s weed and I’m sorry”.

Addressing Mr Tokunbo, Fubler said: “I do apologise, I was upset because we were arguing, we were in a public place but no one at Ice Queen seemed to be disturbed . . . we were in our own car.”

Fubler is due to appear for sentencing on February 11.
