St. George's Preparatory School might have to close, in a meeting at the school tonight.

Sen. Scott called the meeting to give parents the opportunity to find out exactly where Government stands on the future of the school.

Last night he said he requested an audience with the school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) after hearing some of their concerns.

"I felt I needed to meet with them to clear up a lot of inaccuracies they seem to believe,'' he said.

Concerned parents of St. George's Preparatory students took their grievances to the media last month and then presented Premier Jennifer Smith with a petition outlining them.

The school's PTA president Carla Hopwood said parents were angry because they felt that downsizing classes would affect the number of children allowed to attend the school and the decreasing enrolment would result in the school having to close.

Last night Sen. Scott shot down the notion that Government has any intention of closing down the primary school and described the comment as one of the "inaccuracies'' the PTA had clung to.

He said the meeting, which is scheduled for 7 p.m., would have been held sooner but school holidays were on.

"I will meet with them tomorrow night to hear their concerns,'' he said.
