Father-to-be denies drugs charges

A Pembroke man has denied having more than 13 grams of cocaine.
Howard Ascento, 26, pleaded not guilty in Magistrates’ Court this morning to possession of 13.3g of cocaine with intent to supply and not guilty to possession of cannabis on November 19.
Prosecutor Cindy Clarke told the court the amount of cannabis involved was small and for personal use.
Mr Ascento, of Orchard Grove, Pembroke, informed the court he was due to become a father in a few days and asked for bail. Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo granted bail of $10,000 with a like surety and told the accused to report to Hamilton Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The case was adjourned until December 8 for mention.
