Blankendal wins vote for vacant BFA post
Cal Blankendal was voted as Bermuda Football Association (BFA) first vice-president at Young Men?s Social Club on Thursday night.
The Western Stars Sports Club senior executive defeated rival Lee Holder by three votes (ten to seven) to take over the position left vacant by Chris Furbert.
Furbert shocked members during the association?s Annual General Meeting last month when he resigned after serving four years on the BFA executive.
?First of all it?s an honour to have been elected by my peers to serve as the first vice-president of the BFA,? Blankendal told .
?You only have a short honeymoon after you get elected because after that the hard work really begins.?
Blankendal, 33, joined Western Stars in 2001 where he served as youth committee chairman, assistant secretary and president before standing down during the club?s last AGM.
He was, however, later returned as the club?s vice-president after declining to run again for the presidency.
In 2004, Blankendal took charge of the BFA?s youth committee where he still serves.
?I?ve been involved in administrative work for several years now.? he added. ?And I think it?s always good to have new people come onboard with fresh ideas and a new vision.?
