Ex-golf director dies at 73

death of long-time teaching professional Ian Crowe who passed away in his native Scotland on Monday.

He was 73.

The slightly-built Scotsman who had spent more than 30 years in Bermuda was well known at all of the Island's clubs, although perhaps best at Belmont where he served as golf director up until 1991.

He continued to offer lessons until May this year when he fell ill. Current Belmont pro Cornell Bean said he spoke to Crowe only recently and he had been looking forward to returning to Bermuda following surgery in mid-August.

"We're all deeply shocked,'' said Bean yesterday. "He sounded cheerful on the phone.

"He was a wonderful player. He hadn't played since May but before that he was still shooting under his age.'' Funeral arrangements were yesterday pending although it is understood he will be laid to rest in Scotland.
