Edwards in the thick of it as Parish lose record
Ham. Parish 1 St. George's 2
Hamilton Parish's defender Damon Edwards was in the thick of the action in the second half at St. David's, scoring at each end and then conceding the penalty that sent the First Division leaders crashing to their first league defeat.
The only blemish to Parish's season coming into this match was their recent FA Cup defeat to St. George's at this same venue. They were looking to put that right with eight league wins on the trot, but the east enders had other ideas and showed that their upset a month ago was no fluke. The scoreline was identical and followed the same pattern as the first match, with St. George's scoring first, Parish equalising and then St. George's netting the winner.
After a goalless first half in which St. George's went close with two good chances and then Parish had an effort ruled out for offside - all in the first four minutes - the game came up a level or two after the restart.
St. George's boosted their attack with the introduction of Kenneth Butterfield and college student Jarreau Hayward at the start of the second half and the pair immediately began to put more pressure on the Parish defence.
The deadlock was broken in the 61st minute when Neil Paynter flighted in a freekick from the right towards the penalty spot and Edwards deflected it past his goalkeeper Dwayne Astwood as he attempted to clear.
Parish, without the injured Irving Burgess in their attack, took ten minutes to equalise when Edwards, `Mr. Reliable' from the penalty spot, wiped out the lead he had given St. George's. Clevon Hill was fouled inside the box and Edwards blasted his spotkick into the top corner.
The drama was only beginning to unfold as a minute later another penalty was awarded, this time at the other end, when Edwards was blown down for a foul on David Signor on the right side of the box. Parish players protested to referee's assistant Wayne Campbell but the decision by referee Tracy Adams stood and Neil Paynter tucked his kick low to the right of the diving Astwood.
Parish were reduced to ten men in the 75th minute when Alvin Baker, one of those who confronted Campbell, was sent off for kicking Travis Smith in an off-the-ball incident, forcing his home team to play the last 15 minutes shorthanded.
Despite the disadvantage Parish battled in the closing minutes for a second equaliser but the St. George's defence stood firm to end Parish's unbeaten run and score their first win since beating Parish.
The defeat still leaves Parish in first place in the tables, with their lead cut from seven to six points over Ireland Rangers who moved into second place after Prospect's loss.
Wolves 2 Paget 2
Wolves had to settle for a share of the points in their second straight 2-2 draw at home as bottom team Paget came close to pulling off victory at BAA Field.
Hobre Burrows put Wolves in front in the 36th minute, with Nathan Simons equalising in the 56th minute. The same player then put Paget in front from the penalty spot in the 67th minute and it stayed that way until five minutes from the end when Dane Simmons levelled for Wolves.
Simmons' overdid his celebrations of the goal and was booked for misconduct, one of four players cautioned during the match. John Glasgow and Chris Anderson of Paget were booked for late tackles and David Hunt for time wasting.
Ireland Rangers 5 Social Club 2
Host club Ireland Rangers were forced to battle on with just ten men for the final 55 minutes of at Malabar yesterday, yet they were able to hold off Social Club and come away with maximum points.
By taking all three points Rangers moved into second place in the table ahead of Prospect who lost to Southampton.
Rangers actually entered the game with their ranks depleted through injury and a number of players vacationing abroad, but hard work saw them still take a 3-1 lead at the half.
They lost sweeper Winston Martin through injury after 35 minutes and with coach Mike Corday having nobody left on his bench they were forced to play the rest of the game shorthanded.
Henry Santucci and Melvin Brangman each struck two goals apiece, while Shawn Brangman got the other.
Southampton Rangers 5 Prospect 2
At the Southampton Oval the home team had to fight hard until they were able to seize the initiative midway through the second half to put Prospect away.
One feared a one-sided contest after Southampton went 2-0 up though goals by Herbie Dillas after 23 seconds and 16 minutes, but John Richmond pulled one back for Prospect to make it 2-1 at the half.
Defender Ryan Belboda mis-kicked deep in his half to open the way for substitute Phillip Bailey to level the things for Prospect after 58 minutes and the teams battled evenly for ten minutes.
But after 70 minutes a defensive lapse saw Lemar Seymour put Southampton ahead after Dillas worked hard to get a cross into the middle. Neville Grant cracked home the fourth goal after 76 minutes following further problems in the Prospect defence.
Meshach Wade stroked home the fifth four minutes from the end to give his team the comprehensive win.
