Breaking News: 12 years for gunman who shot at Yankee Rawlins

Anthony Swan was today jailed for 12 years.

A young man who shot at Court Street gangster Raymond ‘Yankee’ Rawlins was this morning jailed for 12 years.

Anthony Swan was found guilty of a string of offences including shooting at Mr. Rawlins with intent to do grievous bodily harm after a jury trial in September. He had faced a minimum of ten years behind bars.

Sentencing him this morning to 12 years, Chief Justice Richard Ground said: “It is hard to put into words the havoc, fear and sheer human misery that gun crime causes. The courts have a duty to deter this type of behaviour. The real world consequences of gun use have to be brought home to young men like yourself.”

Swan, 22, did not hit Mr. Rawlins during the daylight attack on Court Street on December 16 last year. Mr. Rawlins was killed in a separate gun incident in August this year.
