Veteran dancehall artists Half Pint, Admiral Tibet and Courtney Melody on Island for concert

Reggae dance hall legends Half Pint, Admiral Tibet and Courtney Melody arrived in Bermuda last night pumped up for their upcoming performances on stage.

The Jamaican trio are here to perform at Sunday night’s Annual Veterans in Action Show at CedarBridge Academy.

Melody and Half Pint are making their first appearance on these shores while Admiral Tibet has performed here in the past along with late singer Sugar Minott and DJs King Yellowman and Admiral Bailey.

All three artists were prominent figures on the reggae dancehall scene in the 1980s and extremely popular among Bermudians.

Veterans in Action CEO, Declan Harris, said the upcoming show will provide mature reggae fans the opportunity to “enjoy some of their favourite artists from yesteryear”.

“The performances will be world class, quality performances from dance hall legends,” he declared. “If this wasn’t a show that we would pay to attend and enjoy then we are doing a disservice to the general public.

“Half Pint will be celebrating his birthday here and this is his first performance on our shores alongside Courtney Melody. Admiral Tibet was here for the very first Veterans event and he remembers the response he received then which was warm and appreciative.”

Half Pint, whose hits include ‘Mr Landlord’, ‘Greetings’ and ‘Sally’, intends to leave nothing on the stage.

“I’m coming to represent,” he declared. I will be celebrating my birthday (52nd) in Bermuda, which I’ve never been to before, so it will be a very special and memorable occasion.”

The veteran singer embarked on an extensive tour of Europe this past summer, performing in countries such as Italy, France, Spain and England to name a few.

Melody, who rose to reggae stardom after churning out hits such as ‘Ninja Mi Ninja’, ‘Modern Girl’ and ‘Key to Your Heart’, is also up for the big occasion.

“It’s going to be awesome,” he said. “Everything is going to be good and nice.”

Admiral Tibet, whose hit list includes songs such as ‘Serious Time’ and ‘Leave People’s Business’, has vowed to make his local fans “sweat”.

“They are going to dance until they sweat,” he said. “I have never done my best and I always try and perform better than the last show I do.”

Mr Harris said the trio’s voices are just as silky as they were back in their heyday.

“It’s amazing how well they sound even at their age,” he added.” These guys still bring it on and perform on a consistent basis.”

To this day Melody’s 1989 album, ‘Modern Girl’, is hailed as one of the greatest dance hall albums ever recorded in Jamaica.

The reggae trio will be backed by ‘Home Grown Band’ who will also play for local singers Diamond I, Hype Type and Beanie.

Local DJs Magnum Force, Black Star, Lenky Global and Prophecy will perform during the interludes to keep the crowd on their toes.
