Fool me once ...

Fool me once...November 14, 2012Dear Sir,Remember when you thought you had a good friend? Oh, they were so warm and caring, and did many things for you and made many promises of what they would do and how they would treat you and boy did you think you were blessed. Then reality set in and you noticed that their promises to do this and that never happened and that they were only warm and caring when you were around your influential friends who they needed to impress as they wanted something from them or they wanted to support their own ego because they needed those influential people. Somehow you ignored all the insincerity (because you were blind to the fact that they were pulling the wool over your eyes) and continued to support them and help them. You then noticed over time that they couldn’t care less about you when you were on your own and the promises they made never did come and when you asked for help, they showed little or no support as they had already gotten what they wanted from you. However, sadly, your influential friends that you introduced were being treated better than you.Well now, here we are again, your friend is back in your life and all caring and making promises again because the 2012 General Election is nearing and they need you once again and that is just how the PLP Government treat you don’t be fooled. Because of them, you have lost your tenant and cannot pay your mortgage because this PLP Government treated our guests and partners with arrogance and chased them away together with our tourist hopefuls, like Rosie O’Donnell and her group of visitors. You may also be one of many who has lost your retail business because our guest workers are no longer here in the volumes we used to have, or your small truck fleet sits idle because of Government’s special treatment of one of their own who still has their 16 wheelers on the road carrying sand which your trucks should be carrying or you taxi sits idle because you had to lay out large sums of cash for equipment Government demanded. They are now saying the warm and fuzzy feel good things again only because they want to use you again. The feelgood things are not going to help you in this current environment as we need projects that will generate cash and create jobs. Their feelgood things to impress you are getting rid of conscription, setting up an education programme at Harmony Hall and soon to be announced opening of the pool at Frog Lane. (I am not saying these are bad things to implement but they are all cost items and don’t generate revenue which is needed now but merely add to our debt). These feelgood things will not help you get a tenant, pay your mortgage, reopen your retail business and get your trucks and taxis back working like they used to. We may not be overly confident in the OBA as they don’t have a track record, but like the great explorers, they couldn’t see over the horizon at what was ahead, but they certainly knew what was behind them and that was more harmful compared to what was over the horizon that inspired hope and anticipation for a better world. Support our new horizon, fellow residents and vote OBA.ONCE FOOLEDSt George’s
