PHC thrash Colts
PHC Zebras 4
Devonshire Colts 1
Two late goals from substitute Khamisi Lightbourne killed off Devonshire Colts in this Premier Division clash at Southampton Oval.
Until Lightbourne struck, Colts remained competitive although they trailed the home side by a 2-1 at the time after Cecoy Robinson had given the Zebras a one-goal lead when he angled the ball home after 74 minutes.
Colts, though tiring, still looked capable of evening the score during counter attacks until Lightbourne, brought on as a substitute for a jaded Kevin Lambe after 66 minutes, tore upen their defence.
His first goal came after 81 minutes following a defence-splitting pass from midfielder Blenn Bean, and four minutes later he was on target again when he latched onto a through ball and hurried by a sleepy defence.
Now in control, Zebras stormed into attack and were unlucky not to add a fifth, denied after 89 minutes when Colts' goalkeeper Greg Rose advanced off his line to block a vicious shot from Cecoy Robinson.
Colts had started the match impressively, putting constant pressure and were unlucky not to score on two occasions during the first eight minutes.
Kyle Jones lobbed the ball over the bar and Ryan Tyrel sensationally chipped the ball over the goal and the woodwork when he should have scored with relative ease.
Zebras slowly came back into the game with keeper Gregory Rose having to dive a turn away a shot from Steven Astwood.
But despite being pinned down for long spells, Colts' defence, marshalled by Quinton Jones and McQuinn Burch, held firm.
Play came alive in the second half with both teams showing more attacking potential.
Rose had to be was alert to block a blast from Zebras' defender Robert Richardson after 50 minutes and the black and whites persevered and were rewarded four minutes later when Holder took a throw in from left-back Jeff Franklin and he steered home the ball 14 yards.
Five minutes later, against the run of play, Colts levelled Kyle Jones thundered home a free kick.
Robinson, howeve,r got the go-ahead goal after 74 minutes.
And it was left to Lightboure to secure all three points.
