Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner handed a Warwick man a suspended sentence after he admitted having a gram of cannabis.Ajani Lovell Albouy told Mr Warner he was unemployed but said he was volunteering at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in hopes of getting a job and had quit smoking cannabis since his arrest.Mr Warner head that Albouy was seen by police dropping a small, transparent plastic bag while standing in a bus stop in Warwick on July 5.When asked what was in the bag, Albouy admitted it was cannabis. Albouy told Mr Warner: “I’m going back to school in September to get my GED and after that I want to go away for school and study to be an EMT.”Mr Warner then asked Albouy if he knew about any policy at the KEMH preventing persons with a record of drug convictions from becoming employed.Albouy replied: “I don’t know of this policy; but I think it would be harder to get the job with drug convictions on my record.”Albouy was granted a conditional discharge under the condition that he not commit any indictable offences for the next 24 months.In a separate case, Kyle Williams, 27, was fined $800 for having .61 grams of cannabis on Cochran Road, Sandys on January 28.Police had searched Williams under the Misuse of Drugs Act at 11pm that day and found a cigar that contained a dry, plantlike material. Testing by the Government Analyst found it to be cannabis.Williams told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that he was “very apologetic” but was told to pay the fine by August 19 or face 80 days in prison.
