Dawnie Louise Smith, of School Lane, pleaded guilty to stealing $27,074.89 from Burrows Lightbourn Ltd.

Crown Counsel Ms Nita Grewal said Smith was required to make up bank deposits for the company and send a report to head office each week. "It came to the attention of the head office that a number of the deposits were not made,'' she said.

Ms Grewal said Smith told Police she took the money because her boyfriend was out of work and they were in financial difficulties.

She also said she intended to pay it back.

Mr. Francis adjourned the case until September 13 and released Smith on $1,000 bail.

GIRL FINED FOR THEFT FROM STORE CTS Girl fined for theft from store A 16-year-old from Southampton was fined $25 for shoplifting beauty items from The Phoenix Store.

The girl pleaded guilty to stealing the two hair colouring products from the Hamilton store even though she had $40 in her possession.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said that the girl was seen leaving the store by an undercover store detective.

She was stopped and admitted attempting to steal the items.

"It will never happen again,'' the teenager told the court.

IMPAIRED DRIVER LOSES LICENCE CTS Impaired driver loses licence Driving while impaired cost Baldeo Budhu, 50, of Simmons Drive, Warwick, $400 and put him off the road for a year.

Police saw Budhu swerving down Middle Road, Southampton, on July 7, prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said.

When asked if he had been drinking Budhu replied: "I had a few beers.'' He was taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was found to have 116 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

AIRPORT WORKER ADMITS STEALING CTS Airport worker admits stealing An airport employee was fined $100 for stealing $30 from a US Customs office.

Luis Gabrielle Rego, 28, of Green Acres, Devonshire, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne told the court that Rego had been seen wandering around the office from which the money disappeared.

Rego was questioned by Police and admitted taking the $30 from an open briefcase.

He said he used the money to buy gas the following day.

TEEN HIT FELLOW PUPIL WITH BAT CTS Teen hit fellow pupil with bat A youth was given two years probation for striking a schoolmate on the head with a metal softball bat.

Chae L. Simmons, 17, of Talavera Lane, St. George's, was sentenced by Acting Magistrate the Wor. Edward King., who made his judgement after hearing a social inquiry report.

Simmons had earlier pleaded guilty to the May 4 assault. He admitted confronting a fellow pupil and striking him with a metal bat.

In court, he told Mr. King he would "stay on the straight and narrow from now on''.
