Leverock and Gilbert in Americas team defeat
Joshua Gilbert and Kamau Leverock couldn’t prevent the ICC Americas team from falling to a 74-run defeat to Barbados in their opening game of the West Indies Cricket Board Under-19 Tournament on Sunday.Barbados, the defending champions, batted first at the Queen’s Park Oval and scored 262 for seven from their 50 overs, with skipper Shai Hope leading the charge with 144 that included 11 fours and three sixes.Shayne Moseley added 55 to help keep the score ticking over, with the pair putting on 113 for the second wicket.Nitish Kumar, two for 33 and Salman Ahmad, two for 53, were the pick of the bowlers for the ICC Americas team.The Americas made a strong start thanks to opener Steven Taylor who struck an entertaining run-a-ball 75.But the tourists then crumbled, losing four wickets for seven runs from seven overs after Taylor was dismissed.Kumar added 26 and Bermuda all-rounder Leverock scored 21, while Chaim Holder took three for 29 to lead the Barbados attack, while Craig St Hill took two for 19.
