Bermuda, 88 without loss, beat Cayman Islands, 87 for eight, by 10 wickets.Kamau Leverock sent a timely reminder to the Somerset selectors as Bermuda crushed Cayman Islands and booked their spot at the World Twenty20 global qualifiers in Dubai next year.Leverock took three wickets for just 13 runs in yesterday’s ICC Americas Division One game in Florida, as Bermuda held Cayman to 87 for eight from their 20 overs and then knocked off the runs with a minimum of fuss.Lionel Cann continued his impressive tournament, hitting four sixes, scoring 54 runs off 43 balls in the process, while skipper David Hemp added an unbeaten 24 as his side cruised to victory with 4.5 overs to spare. With the final Cup Match trials today, and the team for next week’s Classic to be picked this evening, Leverock’s haul couldn’t have come at a better time for the Bermuda bowler.“Kamau Leverock bowled very well,” said head coach David Moore.“He bowled with good pace, good control, got two wickets from slower balls, just really good.“The boy’s maturing, fitting in, and he’s becoming an intregal part of the team.”Cayman were already in deep trouble at 38 for three when Leverock got his hands on the ball. The PHC player had already played a part in one wicket, running out Omar Willis, who hit the ball towards Leverock near square leg and was caught short coming back for a second run. With Malachi Jones and George O’Brien already having dealt with the openers, Leverock set about the middle order, and took just five balls to remove Steve Gordon.Abali Hoilett was next to go, caught behind by Dean Minors, and when Leverock bowled Conroy Wright for just four, Cayman were 50 for six off 12 overs. Some tight bowling from Rodney Trott, who also picked up a wicket, Jones who bagged another and finished with two wickets for nine runs from his four overs, and Joshua Gilbert meant that Cayman could only add 37 runs from their final eight overs.Cann and Hemp took very few risks in chasing down the Cayman total, but always kept the scoreboard ticking over at five runs an over.Moore was full of praise for his team, who bounced back well after their heavy defeat against Canada on Wednesday.“It was an excellent day, excellent,” said Moore.“We bowled and batted really well, we just did everything well today.“I think our bowling and fielding have been the pick of the tournament.“Our fielding has been second to none, we had another run out today, and then from there we’ve just done really well.”The win means Moore can now start planning for his team’s trip to the Middle East.“No-one can pip us now,” said Moore. “We’ve done what we came to do, and job done.”Bermuda’s task in Florida isn’t completely finished. They face USA today in their final game and could still be battling to win the ICC Americas tournament.n St George’s will select their Colts Cup Match team for tomorrow’s game against Somerset from the following players: Christian Burgess, Zeko Burgess, William White, Delray Rawlins, Macai Simmons, Clay Darrell, Shae Pitcher, CJ Marshall, Regino Smith, Onius Bascome, Lateff Trott, Nzari Paynter.
