Festive fundraising event
Bermuda Junior Service League will host their annual Christmas Tea fundraising event, "Silver & Gold" on Sunday between 2.00 and 5.00 p.m. at Westmeath Residential and Nursing Home on Pitt's Bay Road.
Tea, festive decor, crafts, baking and raffle baskets will be available, and tickets are available at the door.
Bermuda Junior Service League is a women's volunteer service organisation established in Bermuda in 1936. Last year over $28,000 in fundraising proceeds were given to families and children in the community by the organisation.
The league raises funds with the Christmas tea and Coin Drive events, as well as the sale of Christmas cards, cookbooks, playing cards and a new endeavour, book checks. The League is also involved in numerous community service initiatives, such as the recently held annual senior and Middle School Debate Tournaments, the adoption of Shelly Bay park and the donation of gifts to King Edward VII and St. Brendan's Hospital patients during the Christmas season.
The Mrs. C. Zuill Scholarship donates $10,000 to a deserving Bermudian studying a relevant field at an accredited university, while, with the assistant of philanthropist Slyvia Munro, blankets will be dispersed to senior citizens at selected local rest homes.
The Bermuda Junior Service League is actively expanding its membership and Bermudian and non-Bermudian professional or non-professional women are all welcome. Joining the League is a unique opportunity to promote volunteer work, make a positive contribution to the community and develop leadership skills.
