Keeper Williams strikes Village winner
North Village 3 Devonshire Cougars 2Goalkeeper Jason Williams grabbed a sensational winner for North Village against Devonshire Cougars in a Dudley Eve semi-final at Somerset Cricket Club last night.Williams struck his first goal of his career directly from a goal kick that bounced twice before looping over his opposite number Che Clarke between the sticks for Cougars.Village’s skipper Sammy DeGraff had earlier notched Village’s first two goals, while Lejuan Simmons and Kwame Steede were on target for Cougars.Simmons struck for Cougars before DeGraff grabbed the equaliser on the stroke of half-time. DeGraff then put his side ahead for the first time before Williams’ bizarre winner. There was late drama after Steede scored in the dying minutes but it was too little too late for last year’s Cougars, who were beaten in last year’s final by Village.DeGraff said: “It would be unfair to say that we dominated the game, it was a different sort of winner but we will progress,” said DeGraff.“I wouldn’t say that we have had the better of them because we have had three battles but we manage to come out on top.“Both sides let in soft goals but also scored good goals so it was entertaining.“From what I know it is Jason’s first goal in his career, but his first sends us to defend our final, so we are happy.”Dandy Town 4 Southampton Rangers 1Raymond Beach plundered a hat-trick in Dandy Town’s victory over Southampton Rangers in last night’s second Dudley Eve semi-final at Somerset last night.Beach’s strike partner also grabbed a goal in Hornets’ comfortable win, while Eugene Stoneham struck for Rangers. It was Stoneham who got the scoring underway, putting his side ahead early in the match as Rangers dictated the pace early on.Burt whatever was said in Town’s locker room at the break did the trick as they came out firing on all cylinders for the second half.Beach brought the teams level midway through the half before Wolfe grabbed his and Town’s goal ahead goal.He then grabbed his second ten minutes before the final whistle and capped off the hat-trick with a polished finish just before the end.
