Grand Slam tickets go on sale
Tickets for next month’s Grand of Slam of Golf, which will feature four of the world’s top players, go on sale today.Although PGA Championship winner Rory McIlroy, the world’s top ranked player, has declined an invitation to compete, the event still has four of the biggest names in the game; former Slam champion Ernie Els of South Africa and defending champion Keegan Bradley as well as his fellow Americans Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson.The tournament brings together the year’s four major winners. Els triumphed at the British Open, Watson won the Masters and Simpson the US Open.Bradley, the PGA champion in 2011, has been brought in to replace McIlroy, who was one of three Irishmen who competed last year, the other two being Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke.The Southampton course has hosted the competition for the last three years, having previously been played at Mid Ocean Club.The 36-hole tournament takes place on October 23-24 with a pro-am scheduled for October 22.Tickets will be available in the upper level of the Washington Mall in Hamilton today and on the next three Wednesdays from 11.30am to 2.00pm.Ticket buyers at the Mall will be eligible for the PGA of America’s two-for-one promotion. Any fan buying a $20 ticket for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday will receive a second ticket free. The weeklong pass for all three days is $50 and is also part of the two-for-one promotion.Advance tickets eligible for the two-for-one promotion are also available any day of the week at the Port Royal pro shop and online at pga.com/grandslam/2012. The two-for-one promotion ends on October 21.This year’s purse is $1.35 million with the winner receiving $600,000, second place $300,000, third place $250,000 and fourth place $200,000.
