Race tumble lands Trott in hospital

Darren Dowling, front, and Ed Daniels rear, tussle for the lead during the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club series at Clearwater.

Rider Leroy Trott had to be rushed to hospital after being knocked unconscious in a spectacular accident during the latest round of the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club's series.

Trott, racing in the GP125 class, crashed heavily while holding third place in race two.

Attempting to negotiate the final corner on the newly extended track at Clearwater Beach he lost control, came off the machine and struck his head on the tarmac.

He was immediately treated by a watching St. John's Ambulance crew and then taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the BMRC said it was believed Trott, who reportedly suffered another bad accident earlier in the season, was at home nursing a cracked collarbone.

In further action Ed Daniels and Darren Dowling tangled on the final corner of the final lap in the combined Stock-Modified and Formula class.

The collision sent Dowling hurtling towards the barriers. After failing in a desperate attempt to keep on track the rider bailed out, the machine crashing into fencing and sending pieces of the fuel tank and other parts flying.

Both men escaped unhurt.

The mini-bikes saw Johnathan Tumbridge take the top honours with Shannon Caisey second and Joshua Tumbridge third.

Close racing in the scooter section saw Davon Bailey pip Scott Hunt for the top spot. It was Hunt's best race outing since climbing on board the World Distributor's sponsored machine. In third place was Ed Cook.

The Kawasakis came to the fore in the stock-modified category, Glen Mello eventually seeing off Neville Lathan.

Meanwhile, Kyle Pimental carved his way through the field to lead in each of the GP125 combined races and at the end of day did enough to take the B division.

Vince Belboda came in second and Billy Dunn took third despite a spill.

The aforementioned Caisey and Ray Masters tied in the GP A category.

The next race day takes place on December 30 at Clearwater.
