Some of Bermuda’s top footballers of yesteryear will look to turn back the clock when they return to action as part of the Eversly (Bo) Lewis All-Star matches tonight.Andrew Bascome, Kenny Thompson, Sammy Swan, Wendell Baxter and Frankie Ming are just a few of the names who will play in the inaugural Legends Game at 7pm at BAA Field.The Legends match will be followed by an All-Star game between a Corona League XI and a Bermuda Football Association (BFA) Premier Division XI to kick off at 9pm.The event will honour the legacy of former Scottish professional Lewis, who signed for Aberdeen FC as a teenager in the early 1960s.Part proceeds will be donated to local charities St. John Ambulance and Youth Vision. Fox has also slashed last year’s admission fee by 50 per cent this year due to the credit crunch.“Hopefully people will come out and see some of the ex-players who they haven’t seen for a long time,” he said.Fox hopes the All-Star games can help raise awareness of the escalating violence in Bermuda. In the past month two young footballers have been shot dead.“That’s the only way we can get over the violence, by bringing everyone together,” he said.Fox has plans to expand the annual event to possibly include First Division and youth footballers in the future.He also intends to honour the legacy of a local football legend from this year onwards.Former winger Lewis signed by Aberdeen at the age of 17 in 1961. Although the talented winger never played first team football he did enough to inspire compatriot Clyde Best who became a cult hero at West Ham.“We need to start honouring our older players.
