Finding those extra hours in the day.^.^.^

One of the downfalls of booming business and full employment is that people become very busy, often too busy to attend to many personal matters. This has become the case for many in Bermuda but Deidre Woolgar has seen it as an opportunity to start up a new business.

Mrs. Woolgar has begun Abacus Executive Service, a company that attends to all the details very busy people just are not able to fit into their schedules or those they would prefer to delegate.

"We are a service-based industry and are available for a variety of functions, like meeting a repairman at your home, doing your banking, feeding your pets and watering your plants,'' said Mrs. Woolgar.

"I have found that many working people need someone to help them with their personal business, especially if they work outside of Hamilton,'' she added.

A working mother, Mrs. Woolgar pointed out that when she worked in Southampton a trip into Hamilton to attend to a simple matter would consume her entire lunch break.

"We understand that with today's ever-increasing demands, people are finding it harder to juggle their personal and business commitments,'' she said.

"Our goal is to ease stress by assisting in managing these personal tasks.'' Mrs. Woolgar also plans to market her new business to other small businesses who may require typing, filing, special mailings or even their banking.

Abacus offers its service at an hourly rate of $25 or by arrangement.

"For those people who require a set amount of hours each week, I will work out a special rate,'' she said.

Taking advantage of the built-in expertise of her husband Mark, Mrs. Woolgar also offers evening computer repairs at your home for $100 per hour.

"To begin with it will just be the two of us in the business,'' she said.

"My emphasis will really be on delivering quality service and hopefully within five years I will be able to expand and hire additional staff. But it's quality I'll be concentrating on, not quantity.

"This business is something I've been dreaming about for the past four years and so it is as much my baby as my young daughter is.''
