Lions stars in line for new Bermuda rugby tournament
Bermuda Rugby Football Union are planning an all-star Sevens tournament that will feature some of the biggest names in world rugby.Lions duo Geordan Murphy and Simon Taylor, along with former England internationals Jamie Noon and Sean Perry have been approached to play in the June 1 event at the National Sports Centre.BRFU president Keith Hodgkins plan would see some 30 professional players, including the touring Saracens squad and others from Canada, USA and South Africa compete alongside local players from Mariners, Police, Renegades, and Teachers rugby clubs.Each local club have been asked to put forward seven players, and they would be joined by five professionals to make up the 12-man squads for the tournament. The six teams, Wasps, Bulls, Sharks, Tigers, BDA Selects, and BDA Under-21s, will be split in to two groups of three, with the first game at 11.30am, and the final at 4.50pm.Saracens and the BRFU are belived to be in the process of ironing out the final details but should the likes of Murphy, Taylor, Noon and Perry agree to play they are also expected to be included in the Bermuda Select XV that is scheduled to takes on Saracen the previous day, and will be managed by Lewis Moody, the former England and Lions flanker.Other matches expected to take place during the all day event, include youth games featuring all the Island’s age group teams.
