Igor overshadows the hit parade
So Hurricane Igor is on his way family! We need to get ready folks. We are in hurricane season Bermuda and the set is on!
DJLT is only 46 (definitely an old fogey now man where'd the 46 years go?) but I've been around for a few serious hurricanes. Bermuda is blessed and we have been spared many times, every year. But we must not rest on our laurels, good fortune, God's favour or our luck. Individual citizens, home owners and tenants must take all sensible and logical precautions. Most importantly, don't do anything stupid. More on this after the Top 20.
Holding down the top spot is 'California Gurls' by Katy Perry, featuring Snoop Dogg, one of DJLT's faves and certainly a fave of the club and pop culture crowd.
Halting its advance at #2 is 'Palance' by JW and Blaze, the soca road march for 2010. Up to #3 is 'Find Your Love' by Drake, another popular track by the new hip hop/R&B stud. Falling to #4 is 'OMG' by Usher featuring will.i.am; a big tune that is quite catchy and has a popping beat.
Improving to # 5 it's 'I Love The Way You Lie' by Eminem featuring Rihanna, not a DJLT favourite track but apparently a hit. Slipping to #6 is 'L'il Freak' by Usher featuring Nicki Minaj. Jumping to #7 is 'Rockstar 10', another hit by Rihanna. Falling slightly to #8 is 'Nothing On You' by BoB featuring Bruno Mars. BoB is 2010's hottest new star. I had a look at the Video Music Awards the other night and he is truly feeling the love.
Down to #9 is 'Unthinkable' by Alicia Keys. Improving to #10 is the soca/dance hit entitled 'Party Hard' by Donee'o. Improving to #11 is 'Dynamite' by Taio Cruz, another hit from the up and coming male vocalist. Up to # 12 is 'I Like It' by Enrique Iglesias featuring Pitbull. Climbing to #13 is 'Ride' by Ciara featuring Ludacris. Falling to #14 is 'I'm Not A Superstar' by Remady, a dance anthem earlier this year which really did well in Europe.
Making huge gains up to #15 it's 'Hello, Good Morning' by Diddy. This is DJLT's favourite track of the moment. Some people just don't like Diddy but he is The Man. Like him or not, the brother brings hot beats every year. Every year he drops something different and hot. Ever since the days of Biggy Smalls/The Notorius B.I.G. Puffy just knows the industry better than many and has carved out a profitable niche and developed a successful business in Bad Boy Entertainment. They just produce hits and lots of other creative stuff. Go on Diddy; do your thing!
On the way down into the #16 spot this week is 'Break Your Heart' by Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris. 'Over', by Drake, falls to number 17.
Now this week's essential new tune. New at #18 is 'Teenage Dream' by Katy Perry, which currently sits atop the world's pop charts. Falling to #19 is 'There Goes My Baby' by Usher. Tumbling to #20 is 'My Chick Bad' by Ludacris featuring Nicki Minaj.
Now back to this week's word Hurricane Igor and hurricane season in general. Hurricane Igor is on track to be a direct hit to Bermuda. This is based on information from the National Hurricane Centre. This is not good at all. Bermuda, our luck may just have run out.
Even if it veers off to the east, we will see some impact here in Bermuda. We will most likely have the onset of tropical storm force winds by Saturday afternoon, 50 knot winds Saturday night and as of the time of submitting this document, the closest point of approach is to be sometime between midnight on Saturday night/Sunday morning and 6 a.m. Sunday morning. (Editor's update: Expected nearest approach of storm is now Monday at 3 a.m.)
So let's be prepared and please don't wait until the last minute to head to Gorhams, Masters, SAL or wherever you go to collect your hurricane supplies. BF&M, Belco and many other companies have online hurricane supplies and advice on their websites. Have a look and be sure you're ready.
I remind everyone that Hurricane Emily (1987) was a Cat 1, but with embedded tornadoes. Fabian was a Cat 3. Both caused significant damage to life and property. Igor is forecast to make an impact at an intensity somewhere in between Fabian and Emily.
My stupid reference earlier in this literary work was directed at the idiots who perennially are seen windsurfing and kite surfing on the north and south shores, during hurricanes. This is dangerous, life threatening and just plain stupid! Please don't do it.
Finally, let's just pray that God will spare Bermuda once more. This is shaping up to be a deadly hurricane season. They are coming fast and furious. So let's all get down on our knees and pray for safety for our island home and people everywhere. When one of us suffers, anywhere in the world, we all suffer. Peace and safety be with you this weekend.......… DJLT.
