<Bz36>Wasi sues BHC in rent dispute
Community activist Khalid Abdul Wasi is suing Bermuda Housing Corporation (BHC) for almost $60,000 in rent he claims he is owed.
Mr. Wasi claims BHC failed to collect more than $58,000 in rent from tenants who lived in apartments belonging to him in Parsons Road, Pembroke, several years ago.
He filed the writ himself at the Supreme Court Registry on December 29.
He told The Royal Gazette*p(0,12,0,10.9,0,0,g)>: “I’m trying to have this matter resolved even before it goes to court.
“It’s a matter of uncollected rent.
“There were clients that they had that were renting premises of mine.
“One client, one family, ran up over $30,000 of rent arrears and there were many other clients who didn’t pay rent.
“I don’t know if the writ has been served,” he said.
“I filed it and I think the court has to serve it.”
The writ relates to several apartments within one property owned by Mr. Wasi, who is making the claim under the name Raymond Gerald Davis. A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Housing, which has responsibility for BHC, did not respond to an email request for comment.
Mr. Wasi tried to start a new political party in 2005 to supplant the UBP.
He said last week that he was planning a series of public forums to discuss how to change the Island’s political structure.
