Christians get their own happy hour event
A spirited happy hour event is aiming to give Christians a new outlet to engage in fun and fellowship with other believers.Fusion, which will have its launch celebration tomorrow from 5.30pm to 9.30pm, is hoping to attract young adults from denominations across the Island in search of good, wholesome fun.Supported by Kingdom Reign Ministries and SLAM (Saved Liberated and Anointed Ministry), young professionals are encouraged to sip on mocktails while listening to the latest gospel beats from DJ Brother Richie of Trinity Sound and Total Package. The event will also be an opportunity for young people to socialise and share their faith with new people.According to event organiser Pahn-Ya Ratteray, the happy hour is about “joining people together who want to share their passion for Christ, creativity and culture”.“It’s different because first of all, the environment we are setting is one which aims to keep God first so there is no alcohol served and [there will be] people of like-minded beliefs and gospel music.”Said Yrima Todd: “It’s like happy hour God’s way.”Ms Todd, who has also worked to make the event a success, said there seemed to be a limited number of healthy, fun activities for young Christians to take part in.“Most of the times on a Friday you go to a movie or stay in and watch a movie at home so it’s nice to come together as Christians from all denominations and from all fellowships.”In addition to DJs, there will be the occasional live music performance, comedians, theme nights and make-up demonstrations.Janita Burke, also involved with the event’s production, said while normally held on Fridays, a special happy hour would take place on the Wednesday night leading up to Cup Match. The pre-holiday jam called ‘Get Something and Wave’ promises to be every bit as fun as other parties jumping off on the Island.Ms Burke said the happy hour celebration has been a long time in the making.“We are excited about it because it’s something that we have talked about for a long time. It’s an outlet to come and chill and have fun without the negative influences of alcohol.“The only influence we are going to be under is God’s influence. You are free to be [yourself] and come just as you are and it’s a place where young people can invite their friends.“This is an opportunity for us to meet new people, share our faith and share our ideas about issues and talk to friends without the negative aspects, like drugs and alcohol and music that is just not positive.”She said their focus was to provide a safe, fun and relaxed environment for Christians, but stressed that everyone was welcome.“It’s for people of all ethnicities, denominations and races. We are looking for a diverse crowd.”The happy hours will take place at Plaza Cafe in the Walker Arcade until September 23. Admission is free.If you are part of another ministry that shares the same vision and want to endorse or volunteer for the event, call Ms Ratteray on 538-2686 or e-mail fusion.events.bda[AT]gmail.com.
