Michael Naurice Fitzgerald Williams died of a massive heart attack on Monday night, just days after celebrating a 20-year long service award from employers Goslings.

Michael Williams stood in the Pembroke East constituency last November, coming third in the vote behind Health Minister Nelson Bascome and backbencher Ottiwell Simmons.

He is survived by his wife Ismay, and children Naurice and Delano Williams, Jean Ann Edward and Neville Richardson.

Last night, UBP leader Pamela Gordon paid tribute to Mr. Williams, saying his passing had shocked the party.

"He was a great guy. The members and supporters of the UBP will join with me in sending their condolences to his family,'' she said. "We pray for them.

The news came as a great shock. He was so full of life.'' Ms Gordon described Mr. Williams, who had run in two General Elections, as a "down home person'' who made people feel comfortable.

"He was a very jovial person,'' she said. "I had a lot of respect for him and appreciate the commitment he made for us.'' Mr. Williams, of Crisson Avenue, Pembroke, was one of a handful of Gosling employees who were recognised for their service and dedication to the company.
