Millican enjoys five-point cushion in Gosling’s Trophy

James MacDonald's Passion holds a two-point lead over Chuck Millican's Elusive (far left) in the battle for the Overall Series with two races remaining in the J-105 Bermuda Invitational

Chuck Millican made significant inroads in his attempt to win the Gosling’s Trophy after two race victories aboard Elusive on the second day of the J-105 Bermuda Invitational in the Great Sound yesterday.

The Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club helmsman posted his third and fourth bullet of the Bermuda Series while sailing in 8-12 knot northerly breezes to build a five-point cushion lead over James MacDonald, the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club (RBYC) skipper, who is at the helm of Passion, going into today’s final race.

Jon Corless, MacDonald’s stablemate at RBYC, sits in third aboard Mayhem, a further six points adrift.

Bill Lakenmacher, the Lakewood Yacht Club skipper, is in pole position aboard Passion in the International Series for the Tourism Bowl, with a seven-point advantage over Steve Cucchiaro, of Eastern Yacht Club, who is sailing Elusive.

In third aboard Back In Black is Greg Turman, of Corpus Christi Yacht Club, a further three points back.

The battle for the XL Trophy, to be awarded to the Overall Series winner after the records of the local and international sailors are collated, remains close, with only three points separating the top four boats.

Passion holds a two-point advantage over Elusive, with Mayhem and Sadiiqi, whose local skipper is Peter Ramsdale, a further point back.
