All-rounder Robinson leads victory charge

Cayman Islands 181-8 Bermuda's under-15 cricket team opened the Bank of Bermuda Tournament in grand style yesterday, strolling to a 129-run victory over visiting Cayman Islands at Southampton Oval.

None sparkled more than Jacobi Robinson, who showed why he is viewed as a star of the future, producing a superb all-around performance. Robinson first displayed his talent with the bat, coming in at number seven and proceeding to ruthlessly tear apart Cayman's bowling attack in a manner reminiscent of his uncle, Jeff Richardson.

Taking advantage of the close confines of the Oval, the 15-year-old smashed five sixes and 10 fours in a rampaging knock of 99, falling just short of triple figures as he was caught at long on off John Japal.

Robinson had an able partner in Tyrell Burgess, the pair putting on 127 for the seventh wicket, with Burgess contributing a patient 32.

Earlier Christino Smith gave excitement to a large crowd with a quickfire 47 that included three sixes and three fours from 31 balls, while others among the runs included Detroy Smith (28) and Mishael Paynter (23).

Bryan was the best bowler for Cayman with two for 55, while Mark Chin weighed in with two for 59. Omar Willis, John Japal, Carl Morgan and Matthew Ebanks each took one wicket apiece.

But Robinson was not finished, as he took the new ball and proceeded to seize three wickets as Cayman quickly fell behind the required run rate, despite showing glimpses of good technique and ability.

Ryan Ebanks top scored in a losing effort with 69 hard earned runs, while next high was Paul Chin with 27.

Last bowler used Daniel Johnson returned economical figures of two for two, while others taking wickets included Kion Butterfield and 12-year-old leg-break bowler Rodney Trott, both with one scalp.

Cayman face Hamilton Parish today at Sea Breeze Oval (1.00 p.m.).

Southampton and Western Stars face off in a do-or-die Premier League match at St. John's Field tomorrow, with the winner likely to emerge as division champions.

Other matches see Flatts hosting St. George's, Warwick entertaining Social Club, Devonshire Rec travelling to Cleveland, Police welcoming Bailey's Bay and PHC hosting Somerset Bridge.
