Millennium.

The Windjammer Gallery in Hamilton is now preparing its Bermuda Colours Calendar for the year 2000. And it is looking for local artists to design the special edition of the calendar.

Normally just one artist is selected to depict 12 local scenes for the 12 months of the year. But to mark the beginning of a new century organisers have decided to appeal to the arts community to come up with something really special.

The gallery is holding a competition, open to all artists both amateur and professional, asking them to submit an illustration that can be used for the calendar.

Gallery owner Susan Curtis said: "We wanted to do something a little bit different for the year 2000 that will encompass the work of more than one artist by opening it up to everyone.'' Mrs. Curtis believes the calendar is an excellent vehicle for artists who want to get their work displayed. A 10,000 print run of the 1998 edition quickly sold out, with many copies ending up overseas after being sold to tourists.

As well as producing one work of art artists will also be eventually expected to provide a border design.

Competition details are available at the Gallery on Reid Street, Hamilton.

Artists hoping to have their work submitted by the end of August.

The 1999 Bermuda Colours Calendar, the Island's original watercolour recipe calendar, is now on sale.
