Looking for details

March 5, 2013Dear SirAnother day, another leading light telling us that all will be for nought if we don’t address the issue of race. Dr Eva Hodgson, Rolfe Commissiong, One Bermuda Alliance, Progressive Labour Party, Kevin Comeau, Christopher Famous, Lynne Winfield, and the list goes on and on and on ... always telling us that we must address this issue or everything else will be simply not worth doing. I’m struggling here. I’ve lived in Bermuda my entire life and I am over 60. Like virtually all Bermudians our friends are both black and white. Most of us treat our fellow man with respect and dignity and in the way we would like to be treated. Maybe it isn’t perfect and maybe we don’t have the ‘other’ race over for dinner but it works both ways. What I do not understand is what I’m supposed to do to ‘address’ the issue of race.I know there are differences based on race. I know that race is used as a political tool to divide us. I know that we are supposed to ‘talk’ about race and God knows, we all do. I know that blacks and whites have different views on their position in various areas of our community. I get it ... I think. Please, please, please tell me specifically what we all need to do to ‘address’ this issue. The word ‘specifically’ means I need the detail not airy-fairy stuff. And please someone other than or at least, in addition to, Lynn Winfield and Eva Hodgson.SKY LARKINHamilton
