BBFA win one, lose one in Brondby Cup
The Bermuda Brazilian Football School (BBFS) opened their Brondby Cup campaign with a win and loss on opening day.They started with a challenging match against the Under-12 tournament favourites, FC Nordsjaelland, a club in the Danish top tier which competed in the group stages of the Champions League last season.Having kept the scores level at the break courtesy of a San-Tze Burgess free kick, BBFS allowed two late goals via a counter attack and a penalty kick which led to a 3-1 defeat.“We were informed of the high quality of FCN and decided to play a more defensive formation for the first 20 minutes,” said a club official.“Our good was well taken by San-Tze Burgess to give us a shout in the second half, and after managing to contain FCN until the last 10 minutes we conceded on a quick counter and then a penalty.”The second match saw the squad take on FC Toyuan of Taiwan, and thrash them 10-0.Braces from Richard Jones jr, Erik and Jarryd Richardson and Burgess bloated the scoreline, while Ilhan Gibbons and Rahzir Smith contribute with a goal apiece.“The objective of the BBFS is to aim for a top-four placing, as we compete against some of the best academy teams in Denmark."The boys are tired after eight games in five days but have shown character in their role as global ambassadors for Bermuda.“All of the tournament teams and their parents have been surprised by our level of play and that we have travelled this far to compete against the best teams in Denmark and Sweden.”The Under-12 group consist of eight teams in a round-robin league format.Tomorrow the club face Olystykke FC of Denmark and IFK Grimsley of Sweden.
