Fathers bond with sons at breakfast

Like father, like son: Fathers and sons listen attentively to words of encouragement at the Father-Son breakfast.

On November 23, 2007 the boys from Dellwood Middle School gathered in the gymnasium with their fathers. Each child and his father were given a ticket as they entered.

Upon entering, they sat down at tables together and watched a slide show that contained pictures of fathers with their sons. There were many things happening which the audience enjoyed. First a male student from Berkeley Institute played two songs on his saxophone and then four boys from Dellwood gave tributes to their fathers through poetry. During all of these festivities, fathers also had the option of taking pictures with their sons.

After that we were dismissed for breakfast, which consisted of bacon, sausages, eggs, and drink and which was provided by the Jamaican Grill. The food had a sensational taste, which prompted many to go for seconds.

There were also two guest speakers. The first speaker was a former Dellwood Head Boy, Ivan Sanchez. The other guest speaker was Dr. Timothy Jackson, principal of Sandys Secondary Middle School.

When the speakers were finished, Mr. Robinson, the M1 Social Studies teacher, called out numbers, and we each checked our tickets to see if we had won a prize. To me this was the most fascinating and interesting part of the Father-Son Breakfast. Prizes included footballs, carry bags, school accessories, movie tickets and dinner at Henry VIII and Black Horse Tavern.

Last but not least, our principal, Mrs. Musson, gave a speech about the importance of fathers spending time with their sons.

The Father-Son Breakfast was a great opportunity for all of the boys from Dellwood to bond with their fathers and also to learn that it is important for fathers to bond with their sons.
