Bay player ?hurled rocks? at former president
A sudden rush of blood to the head could result in a court appearance for a Bailey?s Bay cricketer. yesterday learned an altercation involving a Bay player and former club president Gary Caisey resulted in the latter being bombarded by a flurry of rocks.
The June 15 assault proved to be the last straw for the 57-year-old former executive who resigned last Monday.
Shaken by the ordeal, a reluctant Caisey refused to divulge the name of the player alleged to have assaulted him with rocks on the club?s Sea Breeze Oval premises.
But he did reveal the matter could spill over into the courts, pending the findings of a special disciplinary committee.
?If the committee don?t deal with it . . . then I am prepared to take this to the next stage. I am leaving it all up to them to deal with the situation,? said Caisey.
?The coach (Ricky Hill) saw what happened and I think he should be responsible enough to take the proper action. If they don?t . . . then I will take it to the next stage. But hopefully the committee will take care of it.?
However, when contacted yesterday, Bay coach Hill stated: ?I didn?t witness anything.?
In the aftermath of the disciplinary committee?s decision to ban several of the club?s stalwarts at the beginning of the season, disharmony among members and players alike ensued, said Caisey.
?There?s a lot of disharmony in the club,? he said. ?It (trouble) all came from the fact the cup (First Division championship) went overboard. Nobody stepped forward in proper time to admit they did it. It was like a mass cover-up and it went from one thing to the next.?
Though Caisey refused to discuss the alleged rock throwing incident, one witness who spoke to on condition of anonymity, said the assault escalated from a verbal spat.
He recalled words first being exchanged between the two parties before the player began throwing rocks at the former president who was standing on the club?s balcony.
?I am just too old to get involved around this sort of behaviour . . . that was one of the main reasons why I decided to resign. There are some good people in that club but this was an incident that happened through some hot headed people,? Caisey added.
?I will give this person a chance to apologise or let the committee deal with it. I went home and wrote a report on the incident and if this thing isn?t dealt with accordingly then I do have an option to go to the police and have this thing settled once and for all.
?I still have a lot of respect for the club but I want to give them (disciplinary committee) a chance to grab a handle on the situation. I don?t want to get into any name calling . . . but the incident did occur.?
Earlier this year, Bay openers Dennis Trott and Jermaine Warner along with former skipper Corey Hill all received various suspensions for their part in an August 30, 2003 incident which culminated with the Bermuda Cricket Board First Division trophy being tossed overboard into St.George?s Harbour.
Another player, present skipper Jermaine Outerbridge, escaped with probation. also learned yesterday club players had called for Caisey?s resignation, going as far as threatening to forfeit next month?s Eastern Counties first round clash with St.David?s at Sea Breeze Oval.
Bay, current Eastern Counties cup holders, have called a ?special? meeting next Tuesday to which all members have been asked to attend.
