MOVING EXPERIENCE

...IBC COO Rick Craft and CEO Gordon Bussell have moved their ZipX processing centre in New York to a bigger and more modern address photo by tamell

ZipX's small package shipping business has increased so much in the past five years that it has moved its New York clearing centre to a bigger more modern facility.

International Bonded Couriers (IBC) launched ZipX Express in 1999 to give locals a way to order goods from North American companies that normally do not ship to international addresses.

For the past five years, each account holder has been able to ship most anything they buy to their own specific US address at ZipX's clearing house in Jamaica, New York.

CEO Gordon Bussell said: "ZipX is traditionally for smaller packages so clothing, computer software, computer hardware anything they can conceivably go on the Internet and buy through Amazon, Chadwicks, Lands End, L.L. Bean, any site where their fancy takes them. Obviously, on the Internet the choice is huge compared with the choice one is limited to in Bermuda and on the Internet pricing can often be a lot better than you would find in Bermuda."

ZipX has grown so much since its inception ? it is the oldest and largest small package courier on the island with 5000 active customers compared to competitor Mailboxes Unlimited US Express which has 3000 customers ? that it just relocated its processing facility to New Hyde Park, New York.

Mr. Bussell said: "We basically have outgrown the Jamaica, New York premises as our business has grown and more Bermuda consumers are using the ZipX service. The opportunity came along to move to bigger and better facilities where we just have more space to lay the product out and manage the whole process of getting the packages into our system ready for shipment to Bermuda."

The company has already moved to New Hyde Park, New York, but packages being delivered to the Jamaica address are being transported to the new facility for processing. By March 1 however all customers must update their delivery address with their suppliers and contact their banks to change their secondary credit card address to their New Hyde Park address.
