Kids have a ball at BIFF festival
The fourth BIFF Kids Film Festival was hailed a success by organisers who counted more than 1,000 attendees in its first two days.
Top honours at the three-day festival went to the German feature film Wild Chicks (pictured) , and U, an animated French film.
Youngsters who were chosen from a pool of applicants to sit on the festival jury selected the winning films. Judges in the Six-Plus category were Javier Franks and Jahdejah Swan from Prospect Primary, Kayley Gibbons from Somersfield Academy and Meghan Sherwin from Bermuda High School. The Nine-Plus jury included Meredith Gillespie from Warwick Academy, Nicholas Hall from Somersfield Academy, and Alice Graham-Welton from Bermuda High School.
"More than 1,000 nursery, primary, middle and secondary school students also attended films as part of the festival's School Screening Programme, held Thursday and Friday at Liberty Theatre," said a BIFF Kids spokesperson.
"The younger jury selected U as the top feature, while giving its Best Short Award to the Dutch short film, Hard-Boiled Chicken. The older jury selected Wild Chicks as the Best Feature, while giving its Best Short Award to the Brazilian short film, Mare Capoeira."
Thirty-three films from 19 countries screened during the festival, which also included 11 short films made by local youngsters as part of the BIFF Film Academy summer film production camps sponsored by Butterfield Bank.
