?Two Fools? who just love playing around
The ?Two Fools? are back with a compilation of the best of their comedic skits from the last three shows.
The ?Two Fools? are Nadanja Bailey and Jahrizno Simmons and although many heard them say, ?this is the last of the ?Two Fools? most fans will be thankful that they have decided to come back with ?Two Fools for Life?.
The show is under the distinguished patronage of Mayor of Hamilton Jay Bluck and Mrs. Bluck.
Mr. Bailey told last week that the public had continuously asked when was the next show.
?So to ease the public, as there is not enough entertainment in Bermuda, we decided that instead of writing new material, we?d do some of the skits that were really funny,? he said.
?So most of the skits are from Two Fools I, which we did in 2000, and we selected nine skits and that is it.?
?Two Fools for Life? opens this evening at City Hall Theatre and runs until Saturday.
Describing a few of the skits, Mr. Bailey said: ?One of the skits is entitled ?The End of the Soul Man?.
?In our first show we used James Brown and Michael Jackson and that is the one that we are doing. In ?Two Fools II? we did Patti LaBelle and Whitney Houston and in the last it was Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder.
?We always used two people who are similar in nature.
?Then we have the PMS lady and that is also from the first show.
?There is another one called ?Meet the Parents?, which is from ?Two Fools III? and that is just too funny. It is about a crazy couple and that is all I can say - I don?t want to give it away.?
Mr. Simmons added that making the final selection was a difficult one.
?When we did it the first time, it was just fresh and we didn?t think that it would get the response that it received,? he said.
?I was in college, in Virginia, and he was in New York and I called him up one day and I said, ?maybe we could do something together.
?I think I had been watching ?In Living Color? and I had some ideas. And he said, sure. So I said, ?you write a whole bunch of skits and I?ll do the same and we?ll come together and collaborate.
?I just got on with it and I wrote three skits in one day and when I got back we did ?Two Fools I? and that is how that was created.
?So our star characters were Dorothy Ann Jackson, who is the PMS woman - she is a star. Grandma Edness won the Carifta Games one year - she is a star. She gets booked for baby showers. Another two characters are Seal and Dewars
?We have a scene that all the ladies will relate to, it is about this guy called Club Cat and he is a drunk dude who buys you a drink and he really thinks that you really came to the club specifically for him. But you don?t know him and he stinks. And he?s like, but you came for me and why are you acting like you didn?t. It is that and a whole pile of other skits that are so relatable, but exaggerated of course.
?A lot of the skits that we thought would make it, our director Royce Ann Dill cut.
?(But) it is going to be good fun, they always are.?
Mr. Simmons reminisced about some of their former productions.
?We laughed at it,? he said, ?And we will laugh on stage if it comes to it.
?It has been done and I think it is a good thing. Our first show ?Two Fools I? was only supposed to be a one off, then we decided to piggy back off of it and decided to do ?Two Fools II? and it took us three years to do ?Two Fools III?.?
Along with the Two Fools, Ricaija Simmons, Twan?e Butterfield, Ryan Bean, Kurin Spence, Xenia Dill, Justin Franks and Nishanthi Bailey are also in the play.
There will also be special guest performances by local reggae artists Tiny T and Ninja Cutty.
Mr. Bailey said that he and his sister Nishanthi, who recently starred as Ava in ?Late Bus to Mecca?, would be acting together again.
?We have a part together in the clash of James Brown and Michael Jackson,? he said.
Mr. Bailey said much of their inspiration came from everyday things.
?Some of the skits are formed from other material and we just write it out in skit form and you become the guy and I?ll become the girl,? he said.
?I vowed never to wear a dress again and I guess that I am in a dress again for a couple of the skits. As you get over, you can?t do the things that you used to do like jumping out of windows - your body just can?t take it - so putting on dresses, I don?t want to give nobody the wrong impression.?
Mr. Simmons added that the production is a family event.
?Sometimes you might find things that are adult slick and that children shouldn?t get - a play on words sort of stuff,? he said.
?But generally there is no cursing, although you might hear damn, but there is never any profanity.?
In a bid to expand his experience, Mr. Bailey regularly visits comedy clubs on the US East Coast.
?Every other week I try to get out of here,? said Mr. Bailey who also stars in Tony n? Tina?s Wedding at the Fairmont Hamilton every Tuesday.
?I can go further (than the East Coast), but there is so much that I have to do here that I have to be back for.?
Mr. Simmons added that they were also working on getting a decent demo package together to send abroad.
?In 2005 Nadanja won first place in the Fashion Rock SummerFest 05 Competition - he took a minute to do it and he won it. And that it is big and I haven?t even got to the stage of going away to perform.?
Part proceeds go to The Centre, on Angle Street, and the MULTI/Image Scholarship Fund.
