Bermuda no match for Florida, Trinidad

Championships in Florida after edging Cayman Islands but that came after one-sided losses to Trinidad and Tobago and Florida and a close loss to Bahamas.

The Bermudians were buoyant after an opening triumph against British Virgin Islands, but Trinidad quickly knocked them back on their heels with a 9-2 defeat and the host side rubbed salt in their wounds with an 11-0 shut-out win on Sunday night.

That was followed by a 6-5 loss to Bahamas before the scoreline was reversed against Cayman Islands.

Bermuda lie fourth in the eight-team standings with 21 points. Florida are current leaders on 30 points followed by Trinidad and Jamaica, who both have 26.

Individual competition has already started and Bermuda met with mixed fortunes.

Caribbean champion Terry Cartwright is still going strong after victories over C.Kenney and T.King while Vernon Daniels is the only men's representative still left after triumphs over R.Noel and H.E.Banks.

Elizabeth Simons had the other first-round win amongst the women before losing in the second round to M.Brown and William Pickering, Steven Hayward and John Holder also exited in the second round of singles.

In men's doubles, Gregor McQueen and John Holder, and Hayward and Pickering are still in contention as are Simons and Brenda Hutton and Cartwright and Jean Clark in women's doubles.
