The pair emerged triumphant from what had been a three-way battle for two spots also involving Jean Clark.

Hutton, who entered with a slight edge over her closest rivals, was first to seize a place when she defeated Clark 2-1, this coming following an earlier 2-0 loss to Cartwright.

Meanwhile, Cartwright, under pressure to win, continued to roll along, beating Elizabeth Simons 2-0 to set up a do-or-die match against Clark.

After quickly taking the first leg of the encounter, Cartwright faltered in the second, allowing Clark to level the affair at 1-1.

However, Cartwright refused to be denied, storming back to win the third and final leg for a 2-1 win and a trip to Basle, Switzerland.

On the men's side Steven Hayward, Vernon Daniels, Jimmy Pratt and Greg McQueen have booked their tickets to the World Cup.
