Onions peeled by late strikes
A late equaliser and then a pair of extra time heartbreakers ended the MR Onions cup dream for another season.
FA Cup quarter-finalists last term, the Commercial outfit looked set to claim another league scalp at BAA last night.
With three minutes left on the clock, a Keith Donald header separated the teams and the crowd of ex-pat accountants were in rapture.
But Leroy Matchurin sprung the off-side trap down the right and fired a low shot through ?keeper Greg Fraser to send the game into extra time.
And with game time for this cup clash approaching the four hour mark, and the match seemingly drifting to a rather drab draw and the dreaded prospect of a second replay, Dennis Joell popped up to power a bullet header past Fraser to shatter the tiring Onions.
With the match slipping from their grasp, Jerome Laws then added insult to injury with another driven finish to put the struggling First Division side in the hat for the next round.
On a cold and still night with a crowd numbering no more than 40 in total, this replay was never going to be a classic.
A touch of Cup romance was added when Donald trumped the defence with a towering header from an eighth minute corner to put the underdogs ahead.
But despite the best efforts of the tireless Colin Keane in attack, the lead always appeared a slim one as the game ebbed and flowed with no side really looking threatening.
With time running out, however, Matchurin broke through to save Prospect?s blushes to set up the overtime period which the league side emerged from with a very flattering scoreline.
