Promising young basketball players have been learning skills and drills from one of the US’s most esteemed coaches during this week’s annual Bermuda –Invitational Tournament.Bob Hurley, a three-time USA Today Coach of the Year, held a free coaching clinic at Bermuda College Gymnasium yesterday, where around 20 youngsters were put through their paces.Renowned as one of the top coaches in the US, Hurley has taught basketball at St Anthony’s High School since 1972 and was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame last year.Organiser Allen Walker said: “The Bermuda Invitational has attracted teams along with family and supporters from all regions of the US as well as Westmeath Ireland, totaling 852 people.“These teams have occupied a total of 1,697 room nights at various hotels across the island over the years.“This tournament not only strengthens the bonds of sportsmanship but also impacts our hotels, restaurants, cycle rentals, taxis, Department stores, tourist attractions as well as our public transportation system.”Under Hurley’s stewardship, St Anthony’s have won three national titles and a high school record of 25 state championships.
