Kempe can be proud of his top 20 finish

Sebastian Kempe finished the Orange Bowl regatta in seventeenth place in the Optimist Green fleet at Coral Reef Yacht Club in Miami.

Heading into the final day in twelfth position, finishes of 23rd, fourth, twelfth, ninth and seventh were not enough to prevent him sliding down the standings.

Kempe finished with 186 points, 160 more than the winner Javier Garcon. Also competing in the Green fleet was Bermuda’s Christian Ebbin, who finished 28th in the 60-boat fleet.

Final-day finishes of 35th, two ninths, 25th and an eighth gave Ebbin 281 points and a rise seven places from Sunday.

Mikey Wollmann, in the Optimist RWB class, finished fifteenth in the Red fleet and 20th overall out of 240 boats. He ended the final day with a twelfth, 21st and pair of nineteenth-place finishes to post a total of 107 points.

Finishing 24th in the Red fleet and 35th overall was Christian Cyrul. He posted finishes of thirteenth, fifth, 28th, 24th and 22nd.

Other Bermuda-based sailors in the Optimist RBW class included Felix Cutler (74th), Matilda Nicholls (80th), Alice Reeves (104th), Joe Arrowsmith (109th), Camille Chin-Gurrett (118th), Grace Reeves (144th), Charis Todd (148th), Flo Nicholls (177th) and Brandon Adams (197th).

Chase Cooper, who began his campaign poorly with an OCS, finished a creditable eleventh out of 29 boats in the Laser 4.7 class. In the Laser Radial class, Benn Smith 54th out of 127, Ceci Wollmann 77th (eighteenth girl), Christian Chin-Gurret 101st and James Amaral 125th.
