OBA honeymoon is over
February 6, 2013Dear Sir,OK OBA, the honeymoon is over. I am looking for policies and ideas that will restore this country’s pride. I am fed up with empty offices and shops, tenantless homes, failing businesses and restaurants and of course a dead tourism industry. Xenophobic ideas that have restricted share and property ownership are being discarded worldwide. One way to bring Bermuda back to the 21st century is to open up the residential property market to desirable foreign residence and home ownership. We would still protect a good portion of the market for Bermudians. The remainder could be made available for sale to foreigners with suitable safeguards in place. Current Bermudian property owners would benefit and Bermuda would be the wonderful place it was 15 years ago with bustling neighbourhoods and money back in the economy. This would go hand in hand with the present move away from 60/40 share ownership. This is definitely something to think about as one way to get this country and its economy back on track.JOHN RAYNORCity of Hamilton
