A spa express is scheduled to open at AS Cooper & Sons Limited later this month.A branch the prestigious La Serena Spa at The Reefs resort, La Serena Express will be located on the third floor of AS Cooper’s Hamilton flagship building, overlooking Hamilton Harbour.Travel+Leisure Magazine readers chose The Reefs as the number one resort in the Caribbean region in part because of La Serena Spa. The announcement of the 2012 results read: “ ... there’s one resort that has truly won travellers’ loyalty: this year’s number one winner, The Reefs, Bermuda. It’s the type of property that travellers return to again and again, thanks to perks like the private rose-sand cove and world-class spa. And here’s proof of its staying power: the cliff-side hotel has been on the list for the past ten years in a row — it’s the only hotel that earned T+L’s Hall of Fame honour.”At La Serena Express the view of Hamilton Harbour from the manicure stations, with ferries skimming through the calm inland waters and fleets of tiny sail boats zipping in and out of their wakes, all played out in front of the mowed lawns and candy box homes on the opposite shore, is in keeping with the stunning views clients love at La Serena Spa. Perched high on the cliff-side, it has an expansive and panoramic view of the sparkling, rhythmic waves and multicoloured reef line of the South Shore.La Serena Spa manager Helen Bryan recognised that they have many clients who work in Hamilton and live at the east end of the island.“We are lucky our core business is local people — and they love us! My feelings was — I’m the manager of La Serena, but what if I worked in town or lived east of Paget, but for a quick brow wax or polish change?She explained she has sold large numbers of gift vouchers during the festive season at AS Cooper’s, and it was during the last Christmas shopping period while she was in the shop that she realised a Hamilton location would provide clients with a spa for those quick treatments that could be done during a lunch hour, like a facial, eyebrow waxing, tinting, manicure or pedicure. “At La Serena Express, it is central and would be available here,” she said.In addition, located in the dress department of Cooper’s, there would be time and the opportunity for clients to browse and shop on their way t or from appointments.She also realised that while La Serena did well with gift vouchers at Christmas time, for other special occasions such as Mother’s Day and birthdays, at The Reefs, they were too far away from Hamilton and the East End for customers to make the journey to purchase them.Ms Bryan said the general manager at The Reefs approved of the idea of La Serena Express. She approached Cooper’s, and: “They were interested, and they said yes!” she said.The Spa area is currently under construction and it is hoped that it will be ready for business by mid-month, when it will be managed by beauty therapist Natalie Cox.Their treatment menu includes a selection of facials using either Bliss products which are ‘young and fun’ with treatments including a zit ‘zapping’ facial and a ‘instant’ oxygen radiance facial, both at $79. In addition, La Serena uses Elemis skin care, which is a high quality and popular salon label, and those facials include a pro collagen ‘pronto’ facial as well as a visible brilliance ‘on the double’ which is said to instantly firm, rejuvenate and plump skin. They are $89.Now, Bliss products and Elemis products are also available for sale at Cooper’s. “Additionally, lash and brow tinting are offered at $30 and $20, while a lash and brow tint with a brow wax is $39.A whole range of waxing, from upper lip to a Brazilian, is available. Ms Bryan explained her therapists are specially trained in waxing techniques. “There is a protocol for every treatment. All the technicians are very experienced and they guide you through it. We really are trying to encourage people to try our waxing,” she said, and added they promise to minimise the pain of the procedure.It is hoped that the door will open on Thursday, September 12 and La Serena are taking appointments for September 17 onwards.
