Ricky Brangman has resigned as player/coach of Premier Division Devonshire Recreation Club.Brangman cited personal reasons for his decision to resign and thanked all those who have supported him at the club for the past several years.“I just want to thank the club for giving me this opportunity to coach and the players and fans who have supported me over the years,” he said. “I have had numerous calls from lots of people and I want to thank everybody for their support.”Brangman, whose highly decorated cricket career began at Rangers, added: “I think it’s time for me to move on. I have some personal things to do and so I have to do what I have to do.”Brangman’s resignation arrived just days before Devonshire begin their quest for Belco Cup glory against Bailey’s Bay in the semi-final.When asked whether he regretted the timing of his decision to step down, Brangman replied: “The timing is never right when you retire and sometimes in life you have to do what you have to do.”Brangman had considered resigning as Devonshire’s coach at the end of last season but eventually had a change of heart after being asked to stay on.During a stellar cricket career spanning several decades Brangman won countless domestic league and cup honours with Rangers and Western Stars as a player. As a coach he won the Central Counties, First Division 50-Over and Two-Day League with Devonshire where he played alongside his three sons (Ricardo Jr, Derek and Lamont), nephew (Dean Stephens) and grandson (Racaija).“That was the highlight of my career, playing with my three sons, nephew and grandson,” Brangman said. “That was a good way to end my career.“Winning everything with Rangers and Western Stars was a big achievement.”Brangman’s final game as Devonshire’s coach ended in a humbling 318-run loss to his former club Rangers in a 50-over affair at Southampton Oval at the weekend.Devonshire’s executive and management expressed sadness over Brangman’s sudden resignation in a club statement.“The executive and management committee are disheartened with the sudden announcement of Mr Ricky Brangman Sr’s resignation as senior coach of the cricket team,” the statement read. “It has been conveyed that personal issues led to his decision to step down at this particular time.“We take this opportunity to thank Mr Brangman for his many years of service and we cherish the glory moments he facilitated over time.”Dennis Williams and Anthony Amory will direct Devonshire’s cricket programme in Brangman’s absence.n Kwame Tucker and Lionel Cann have been chosen as Logic Premier and First Division players of the week.Tucker belted 122 in Southampton Rangers’ 318-run defeat of Devonshire (50-over) while Warwick player/coach Cann thumped an unbeaten 170 against Somerset (T20) and another unbeaten 129 against PHC (50-over) at the weekend.
