Berkeley win final thriller

defeated CedarBridge 69-53 in the Varsity Boys final of the sixth Commercial Risk/BBA annual tournament on Saturday night.

CedarBridge had taken an early lead but it was Berkeley who held the half-time advantage, leading 27-20. However, Cedarbridge roared back in the second half to send the game into overtime.

But in the end it was foul trouble that led to their downfall as they finished the game with just four players.

Berkeley's Kenan Robinson came off the bench to pour in 16 points and capture the MVP award. However, Berkeley's top scorer was Jason Simons with 29 points while Jason Lowe led CedarBridge with 20.

Earlier, Whitney Institute and Warwick Academy set the tone for the evening in the Boys Middle school final.

Again, the game went into overtime as Whitney captain Tiago Garcia sunk a three pointer right on the buzzer to tie the game at 32 each.

Whitney then went on to clinch a 37-36 victory with Devon Dessantos taking the MVP award after scoring a team high 16 points. Darron DeShields was Warwick's top scorer with 10.

In the Varsity Girls final, Berkeley took advantage of an injury-hit Warwick Academy team to run out 33-25 winners.

Warwick dominated the offensive boards thanks to centre DeShae DeShields but couldn't capitalise on their chances. And in the second half it was Berkeley who stepped up the pace, led by Kimmisha Perinchief who tallied 19 points to take the MVP.

Amy Roach and DeShields both scored seven points for Warwick.

Next up is the BSSF Middle and High School tournament.
