New appointments in the Ministry of Finance have been announced.

Bermudians Wayne Brown and Pamela Burrows were appointed as Assistant Financial Secretary (Treaties) and Assistant Financial Secretary (International Business) respectively.

Mr. Brown accumulated nearly 20 years experience in Bermuda's International Insurance and Reinsurance business before joining the Ministry of Finance in 2003 as Assistant Financial Secretary in International Business.

Mr. Brown left that post earlier this year to head up the newly established treaty unit in the Ministry.

The treaty management and administration function had grown in importance and required dedicated resource of its own.

Mr. Brown holds the United Kingdom Professional Insurance designation Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute London England (ACII) and is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute London and a Certified Member of the Bermuda Insurance Institute.

Of his new appointment, Mr. Brown said: "I am extremely pleased to further assist the Ministry in this important area of treaty administration and negotiation and am pleased to have already successfully concluded treaties with Australia and the UK."

Pamela Burrows is the new Assistant Financial Secretary in international business within the Business Development and Regulatory Unit of the Ministry of Finance. Ms Burrows has a combined 20 years of experience in the private and public sectors.

She holds degrees of Diploma in Business Studies from the Bermuda College, a Bachelor of Honours in Economics from York University in Ontario, Canada and a Bachelor of Honours in Law from the University of Kent, Canterbury, England.

Ms. Burrows is primarily responsible for overseeing the policy, as well as legislative programme for the financial services sector in Bermuda.

Prior to this appointment she had served as the Legislative Assistant/Policy Analyst for the International Business Unit within the Ministry of Finance for eight years.

She has previously held positions in the banking and trust sector in addition to the Registrar of Companies Department in Bermuda.

Ms. Burrows has also served on numerous boards and committees including, the BIBA Legislative Change Committee, the BIBA Investment Funds Committee, the E-Commerce Advisory Board, Insurance Advisory Committee, the International Business Forum and the Joint Select Committee on Private Bills.

Financial Secretary, Donald Scott, said today: "I am delighted with these two key appointments.

"The required skill sets for these high level policy advisory positions are not easily found.

"I welcome Ms. Burrows and Mr. Brown to their new positions and responsibilities. I am proud that they are Bermudian and I have no doubt that they we will continue to add value to the Ministry's policy work and to Bermuda's continued success as a premier jurisdiction for international business."
